Mirage Founder, Director, and Head Coach Dave Bornstein grew up in West Hartford, Ct. before moving to Newington in 1986. Dave graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Education and from Central Ct. State University with a Masters’ Degree in Guidance. While attending Emerson, Dave was a member of Alpha Pi Theta where he was president of his pledge class and a centerfielder on its softball team. He also played Varsity basketball all four years at Emerson and was captain in his senior year.

Dave played fastpitch softball for 27 years on various teams which won multiple league championships. While teaching English, he also coached junior high and high school basketball for 14 years. He began his softball coaching career in the Newington Little League winning six town, league, and district championships between 1996 and 1998. He coached in the Northern Ct. Girls Softball League in 1999 and 2000 winning the league playoff tournament in 1999. His first travel ball coaching experience was with the Ct. Eliminators between 1999 and 2001.

Dave coached high school softball at Glastonbury High from 2003 to 2007 winning the Western Division championship in 2004. He then coached at Manchester High in 2008 and 2009 compiling 30 wins and winning a state tournament game before becoming an assistant coach at Berlin High in 2010 and at Hall High in 2011 and 2012.   Dave has coached the Newington Summer League team for the past three years winning the league in two of those three years.

Overall, Dave has won over 700 games and 38 championships at the Little League,Town League, Summer League, High School, and Travel Ball levels.

Dave and a group of coaches have conducted player clinics in West Hartford, Simsbury, Barkhamsted, and Wethersfield and coaches clinics in Stafford, Newington, and Simsbury.

Dave was an assistant coach at Newington High School in 2014 and 2015. 

Dave is currently the head coach of the CT Mirage 16U (Bornstein) team.
