A Little About Us

History

The Connecticut Mirage was founded in 2002 by Dave Bornstein and has grown to become one of the premier girls fastpitch organizations in Connecticut.

The Mirage teams have won numerous travel tournaments throughout New England and over 100 Mirage players have gone on to play at the collegiate level.

The team name was inspired by the famed Las Vegas luxury hotel and the purple, teal and white uniforms were inspired by the 2001 Maryland Legends. Today, the Mirage uniform colors are widely recognized throughout the travel ball circuit.

Dave Bornstein

Founder & Director

Dave Bornstein, the Mirage Founder and Director, began his softball coaching career with the Newington Little League from 1996-98 then moved on to coaching in the Northern Connecticut Girls Softball League from 1999-2000. His first travel ball coaching experience was with the Connecticut Eliminators from 1999-2001 before he founded the Mirage in 2001.

The Mirage coaches are experienced, including former Mirage and college players.

Our teams practice year round and we host organizational practices and skill days where older players mentor and work with younger players.

We guarantee all players two starts on Saturday during pool play.

Mirage teams will typically consist of 11 or 12 full-time players and may include one “roster player”. Roster players practice with the team and may fill in for a full-time player who misses a tournament due to injury or other absence.

All teams within the organization are age appropriate for continuity. We try to build teams with girls who are the same age and grade level.

Mirage tryouts are typically held in early August. Most teams participate in leagues or tournaments in the fall and practice during the winter at the Fastpitch Nation facility in Bloomfield, CT.

The team tuition is determined by the manager of each team and will vary based on practice time, tournaments, uniforms, equipment, insurance, etc. Payments are collected over time.

Many Mirage teams particpate in fundrasing campaigns that are organized by their team. These events can help reduce cost of tuition. In addition, any girl can be sponsored to help with her tuition.
